O’Smach

Today is the first day in Cambodia and this country is sweet! The last couple of days in Thailand we’re really nice and relaxing. We spent one day teaching English, and meeting the mother of a monk from San Fran. Teaching English was so much fun. We showed up, and everyone was so curious about us, because we were in some remote little town, and you could tell they weren’t use to seeing visitors, especially at their school. We just drew all kind of pictures, and really wung the whole thing. Then we went to a little village, and met some locals and it was a real eye opener.

We finished the day with dinner a pond with huge catfish, and then passed out at the house. Today we started the day off with a homemade breakfast, and then got a ride in the back of a pick-up to Cambodia. The border was a trip. O’Smach is the name, and it’s an adventure in itself. We went through immigration, and all the officials are drinking, and just chillin’. Then we went to the other side, and received another stamp. Both the guys were a bit hesitate about my passport having new pages, and I had to remind them I bought them at the US Embassy in Bangkok. Few minutes later, and we were on our way to Siem Reap, a small town just outside of Angkor Wat.

Were here now, and so far so good. The best part, is the streets are free of the smell of sewage. It is absolutely horrible in Thailand. Everywhere you go, it smells like fecal. Cambodia is much cheaper, and the people seem much nicer, but you can tell the country is definitely more raw. The drive was gorgeous to the town, winding around the countryside, past water buffalo and rice patties. There’s too much to explain, and I can’t find the words to describe it.

The next three days are going to be spent checking out the temples of Angkor Wat.
